The drive between Prescott and Jerome on AZ-89A passes through the Prescott National Forest — ponderosa pine, elevation changes from 5,300 ft in Prescott down into the Verde Valley and back up to Jerome's 5,000 ft perch. It's one of Arizona's most dramatic inter-city drives, and the approach into Jerome from the Prescott side (coming down from the forest and then climbing the switchbacks) gives you a completely different visual perspective than arriving from Cottonwood.

Whiskey Row vs Spirit Room
This is the most direct comparison between the two towns. Prescott's Whiskey Row on Gurley Street is legendary — a surviving stretch of 1880s frontier bars that once served as one of the roughest drinking districts in the Arizona Territory. Today it's a mix of historic bars and newer establishments on the same footprint. The scale and history are impressive.
Jerome's Spirit Room is a single bar in the Connor Hotel. By volume and variety, Whiskey Row wins easily. But the Spirit Room has more concentrated atmosphere per square foot than anything on Whiskey Row — a pressed-tin ceiling, a back bar that has absorbed a century of mining town use, and an energy in the evenings that feels genuinely earned.
