Jerome AZ Hotels

Five historic properties on a haunted hill. Each one is different. Here's how to choose.

Jerome doesn't have a Marriott. What it has is five small, intensely individual properties — all historic buildings, all within walking distance of each other, all with the kind of personality that chain hotels spend millions trying to manufacture. Inventory is tight: total rooms across all properties is roughly 50. Book early on weekends, especially in October (peak ghost tourism season).

Who should stay overnight: Anyone who wants to experience Jerome after the day-trippers leave. The town empties after 5 PM, the atmosphere changes completely, and ghost tours run at 8–10 PM. One night is enough for most visitors.

1. Jerome Grand Hotel

The Lowdown Verdict: The most iconic lodging in Jerome. Book it for the experience, not the amenities — it's a historic building with genuine presence, not a luxury hotel.

Built in 1927 as the United Verde Hospital, the Jerome Grand Hotel operated as a medical facility for decades — treating mining injuries and accumulating a documented history of deaths that fuels its paranormal reputation. The Mission Revival building sits at the top of town at 5,200 feet, with Verde Valley views from the terraces that justify the altitude alone.

Rooms are authentic historic — expect period-appropriate character rather than modern finishes. The Asylum Restaurant on the ground floor is one of Jerome's best dining options. Room 32 is the most-requested haunted room — it books weeks out in October. The hotel also runs its own ghost tours for guests.

2. Connor Hotel

The Lowdown Verdict: Best location in Jerome. Central on Main Street with the Spirit Room bar downstairs — ideal for anyone who wants to be in the middle of things. Noise reality: the Spirit Room has live music Friday–Sunday; light sleepers should book a rear room.

The Connor Hotel opened in 1898 and has operated almost continuously since. It sits directly on Main Street — the most central location in Jerome — with the Spirit Room bar on the ground floor. The Spirit Room is one of Jerome's most documented paranormal locations, with bartenders who've worked there for decades sharing specific, consistent accounts.

Nine rooms, each different. The building retains period character. Rooms above the Spirit Room will hear live music on weekends until around midnight — ask for a back room if noise is a concern. Walking distance to everything in Jerome.

3. Ghost City Inn

The Lowdown Verdict: Best for couples who want Jerome's haunted character without the Grand Hotel's late-night noise. Six-room B&B at 541 N Main St with full hot breakfast (8–10 AM) included — the only Jerome property with complimentary hot breakfast.

Ghost City Inn is a six-room bed & breakfast in an 1898 Victorian building at 541 N Main Street. Full hot breakfast included daily, 8–10 AM. No on-site bar, no street-level music venue — quieter than the Connor Hotel and Grand Hotel on Friday and Saturday nights. The Verde Valley Suite has a private deck with unobstructed valley views; it's the most-booked room in Jerome for couples.

The hosts are on-site and knowledgeable about Jerome. Only 6 rooms — fall weekends book 4–6 weeks out; mid-week stays are usually available with shorter notice.

$225–$295 weekend

4. Inn at Jerome

The Lowdown Verdict: Best value in Jerome. Eight rooms at 309 Main St, 2023-renovated bathrooms inside an 1899 historic shell, mountain views, lowest weekday price point. Book here and spend the savings on a Caduceus dinner.

The Inn at Jerome is an eight-room property at 309 Main Street with a complete 2023 interior renovation — modern bathrooms inside a genuine 1899 historic building. Continental breakfast included. This is the most straightforward lodging option in Jerome: no paranormal lore, no bar scene, just clean renovated rooms at the best weekday price in town.

Trade-offs: rooms are smaller than the Grand Hotel, no full hot breakfast (continental only), no signature haunted history. The right call for travelers whose budget is better spent on wine and food than the room.

$125–$185 weekday
$185–$265 weekend

5. The Surgeon's House B&B

The Lowdown Verdict: Best for honeymooners or couples seeking privacy. Former surgical suite turned B&B — spectacular views, intimate atmosphere, and one of Jerome's most specific paranormal histories. Only 4 rooms.

The Surgeon's House was the residence of the United Verde Mine's chief surgeon — the doctor responsible for treating the most gruesome mining injuries of the copper era. The building has been converted into a four-room B&B with Verde Valley views and an intimate atmosphere. Given its history, it's also one of Jerome's documented paranormal locations — the haunted guide covers the specific accounts.

Full breakfast, private gardens, and very limited availability. Book weeks in advance on weekends.
