Privacy Policy
The Lowdown Guide ("we," "us," "our") operates travel guides for Flagstaff, Sedona, Jerome, the Grand Canyon, and other destinations. We are committed to keeping the data we collect to a minimum and being transparent about how it is used. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to run the site and sell our audio tours:
- Analytics data — aggregate, non-identifying usage statistics (pages viewed, referrer, country, device type) so we can understand which guides are useful. This data cannot be tied back to you as an individual.
- Purchase data — if you buy a GPS audio tour, we record your email address and which tour you purchased so we can grant you access. Payment card details are handled entirely by our payment processor (see below) and never touch our servers.
- Messages you send us — if you email us, we keep your message and address to reply and for our records.
Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first, EU-hosted analytics service. Plausible is cookieless — it sets no cookies, collects no personal data, and does not track you across other websites. All measurement is aggregate and anonymous. There is no cross-site profiling and nothing to opt out of, because no personal identifiers are stored.
Payments
Audio tour purchases are processed by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment provider. When you check out, your card information is collected and processed directly by Stripe under Stripe's privacy policy. We never see or store your full card number. We retain only your email address, the tour you bought, and a transaction reference so we can deliver your purchase and handle support or refunds.
Affiliate Links & Cookies
Some links on this site are affiliate links to partners such as Viator and Expedia. When you click one and make a booking, the partner may set its own cookies to attribute the referral and may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you. Those cookies are governed by the partner's own privacy policy, not ours. See our full affiliate disclosure for details.
The Lowdown Guide itself sets no advertising or tracking cookies. The only browser storage we use is functional — for example, remembering which audio tours you have purchased so they keep working offline.
How We Use Your Information
- To deliver and maintain access to GPS audio tours you have purchased.
- To respond to your questions and provide customer support.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it.
- To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send marketing email unless you ask us to.
Data Sharing
We share data only with the service providers needed to operate the site — our payment processor (Stripe), our analytics provider (Plausible), and our hosting provider — and only to the extent each needs to perform its function. We may also disclose information if required by law. We do not share or sell your data for advertising.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. Because we collect so little, this is usually as simple as asking us to remove your purchase email from our records. To make a request, email us at the address below and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Children's Privacy
This site is intended for a general, adult travel-planning audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site grows or as laws change. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted clearly.
