Lake Powell lodging splits into two distinct strategies: stay on the water (or right beside it) at Wahweap or Antelope Point, or base yourself in Page, AZ and drive 4 to 5 miles to the marina and attractions. Page hotels are significantly cheaper and position you equally well for Antelope Canyon tours and Horseshoe Bend. On-water lodging makes sense if marina access, water views, or the resort experience is itself part of the trip.

1. Lake Powell Resort (Wahweap Lodge)

Lake Powell Resort — also operated under the Wahweap Lodge name — sits directly adjacent to Wahweap Marina on the Arizona side of the lake, 5 miles north of Page on Highway 89. It is the primary full-service hotel in the Lake Powell NPS area and the most convenient option for houseboat-launchers, guided tour departures, and lake-focused travelers who want water proximity without sleeping on a boat. The resort has two room tiers: standard rooms and lake-view rooms, which look directly over Wahweap Bay and the Vermilion Cliffs. Lake-view rooms are worth the upgrade at sunset — the sandstone color shift over the reservoir is one of the more dramatic hotel views in the Southwest.

On-site amenities include a full-service restaurant, outdoor pool, and marina activities booking desk. All Wahweap Marina tours — Rainbow Bridge boat trips, kayak and paddleboard rentals, houseboat checkout — operate steps from the resort entrance. Check the Bureau of Reclamation Lake Powell water gauge before booking: if elevation drops below 3,490 ft, the marina's launch infrastructure may be affected, though Wahweap remains the most resilient of the three major marinas at low water.

2. Antelope Point Marina Cabins

Antelope Point Marina is a Navajo Nation-owned and operated facility about 8 miles east of Page on AZ-222, offering houseboat rentals, boat rentals, and floating cabin-style accommodations that sit directly on the lake surface. The floating cabins are a genuine on-water lodging experience — waking up to the reservoir at dock level, with the open water immediately accessible. The marina positions travelers well for the lake's eastern basin and provides a less crowded alternative to the Wahweap area.

Important: Antelope Point Marina sits on Navajo Nation land — the same jurisdictional distinction that applies to Antelope Canyon. Marina services operate under Navajo Nation management and may differ in hours, availability, and reservation process from NPS-area operations. Check current availability directly with Antelope Point Marina, as floating cabin inventory is small and books out months ahead in peak season. Water elevation note: the marina's boat launch and dock access is more sensitive to elevation changes than Wahweap — confirm ramp status before finalizing a booking.

3. Page, AZ — Gateway Hotel Base

Page, AZ (population ~7,500) exists primarily to serve Lake Powell visitors and is the nearest town to both Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. The city sits on a mesa above the Colorado River and is about 4 miles from Wahweap Marina. Most branded hotels are clustered along US-89 — including Hampton Inn by Hilton, Best Western Lake Powell, Holiday Inn Express, and Courtyard by Marriott. Rates run $90 to $200 per night depending on season and demand. July is the most expensive month by far.

For visitors doing Antelope Canyon tours, note that many tour operators (Ken's Tours, Navajo Tours AZ) have staging areas right in Page or just off US-89 — convenient from any Page hotel. The Horseshoe Bend trailhead parking lot is also on the south side of Page, about 1 mile from the US-89/AZ-98 junction. Dining options in Page are limited but functional: Slackers Burger & Brew, Blue Buddha Sushi, and the Ranch House Grille are local standbys. 4. Bullfrog Resort & Marina (Utah Side)

Bullfrog Resort & Marina sits on the Utah side of Lake Powell, accessible via UT-276 and about 96 miles from Page by road. The resort offers motel-style lodging and RV sites and serves as the primary Utah-side launch point for the mid-lake basin. Halls Crossing Marina is accessible by ferry from Bullfrog — the crossing provides one of the most scenic and unusual lake transit experiences in the Southwest.

Important water-level note: Bullfrog's launch ramps are more elevation-sensitive than Wahweap's. When Lake Powell elevation drops below approximately 3,560–3,575 feet, some ramps at Bullfrog close. Check the Bureau of Reclamation gauge before committing to Bullfrog for a houseboat trip. Visitors connecting from the Grand Canyon or traveling a southern route to Utah national parks are better positioned by Wahweap or Page. Bullfrog is the right choice if you're routing from Bryce Canyon or Capitol Reef and want to spend time in the mid-lake Utah basin without backtracking to Page.
