What Wahweap Marina Is
Wahweap Marina is the primary concessionaire facility at Lake Powell, managed by Aramark under a concession agreement with the National Park Service for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. It sits on a protected arm of the lake on the Arizona side, about 7 miles north of Page on US-89. The facility includes boat docks, launch ramps, rental facilities, fuel docks, a lodge and resort hotel, restaurants, and a gift shop.
Wahweap has operated as the main Lake Powell marina since the reservoir filled in the 1960s and 1970s. It is the largest marina on the lake and handles the majority of rental and tour traffic for the Page-area portion of Glen Canyon NRA. Its size and infrastructure are unmatched at any other Lake Powell marina.
The Glen Canyon Dam and Carl Hayden Visitor Center are located directly adjacent to the Wahweap area, which means a visit to the dam and a boat departure from Wahweap can be combined in the same day without significant driving.
Getting to Wahweap from Page
From downtown Page, follow US-89 north for roughly 7 miles. The road descends from the plateau toward the lake and passes the dam before reaching the marina entrance. The drive takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes under normal conditions.
Parking at Wahweap is divided between the resort hotel lot (for guests) and the marina day-use area. In summer, day-use parking fills early on weekends -- arrive by 8 or 9 AM to be sure of a spot. The NPS day-use fee is separate from any marina rental or tour fee; pay it at the entrance station. Verify current fee amounts at nps.gov/glca, as fees are adjusted periodically.
No public transit connects Page to Wahweap. A car is essentially required unless you are staying at the Lake Powell Resort on property, in which case shuttle arrangements may be possible -- check with the resort when booking.
Boat Rentals and Launch Facilities
The Wahweap rental fleet includes a range of powerboats from smaller ski boats and runabouts to larger cruiser models and pontoon boats. The fleet is managed by Aramark; contact them directly for current inventory, availability, rates, and reservation requirements. Do not rely on third-party pricing information for boat rentals -- rates change by season, boat type, and year.
Summer peak-season boat rentals at Wahweap book out weeks in advance for popular weekends. Mid-week slots and shoulder-season dates have better availability. Most rentals require a fuel deposit and a safety orientation before departure. Life jackets and safety equipment are provided with rentals.
The public boat launch ramp at Wahweap is one of the best-maintained launch facilities on the lake. Multiple lanes handle both single-hull vessels and large houseboats. A day-use fee applies to launching. Trailer parking is available but fills quickly on busy summer days -- arrive early or coordinate arrival during a less busy period.
Lake Powell Resort and Lodging at Wahweap
Lake Powell Resort, operated by Aramark, is the on-property lodging option at Wahweap. The property sits above the marina with views over the reservoir and surrounding canyon country. Room categories include standard rooms and suites; most rooms face the water. The resort is the most convenient lodging option for visitors planning an early marina departure.
Rates at Lake Powell Resort are higher than comparable lodging in Page, reflecting the location premium. Booking well in advance is essential for summer stays -- the property has limited room count and high demand from mid-May through Labor Day. Some visitors prefer to stay in Page and drive the 7 miles to Wahweap each morning, which is a practical alternative at lower cost.
There is no campground at the Wahweap main facility, but Wahweap RV & Campground is adjacent to the marina and operated by Aramark, the park concessioner. The campground is popular and sites fill early in summer. Reserve through lakepowell.com; same-day walk-up availability in peak season is not reliable.
Dining at Wahweap
The Rainbow Room is the full-service restaurant at Lake Powell Resort. It serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and offers views over the reservoir. The menu covers American classics with Southwestern influences. It is the only sit-down dining option at the marina itself -- expect it to be busy at peak meal times during summer and consider a reservation if your schedule is flexible enough to make one.
A more casual dining option is available at the marina level near the boat docks. This counter-service option is useful for a quick meal before or after a boat trip when you do not have time for a full sit-down experience at the Rainbow Room. Menu and hours vary by season -- verify current options when you arrive.
For a wider range of dining at lower price points, Page has a full range of restaurants. Many visitors eat dinner in Page and use Wahweap primarily as a launch point rather than as a dining destination. The drive is short enough that this is a practical approach.
Tours and Activities That Start at Wahweap
The Rainbow Bridge boat tour departs from Wahweap Marina docks.
