Lowdown Verdict
The practical "nice dinner" choice on the South Rim. Same rim location as El Tovar Dining Room, less formal, easier to book, more affordable. When El Tovar dinner is unavailable — which it often is in summer — this is your correct fallback. Confirm open before winter visits; it closes January through February.
About Arizona Steakhouse
Arizona Steakhouse operates inside Bright Angel Lodge at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The lodge sits directly on the canyon rim — the steakhouse is rim-adjacent, with the canyon-facing side of the building looking out over the South Rim through picture windows. This positions it alongside El Tovar as one of only two sit-down restaurants in the park with direct proximity to the canyon edge.
The menu focuses on steaks and Southwestern-influenced proteins: grilled cuts, chicken, and fish with chile-rubbed preparations and regional sides. Pricing runs $20 to $45 for dinner entrees, making it noticeably more affordable than El Tovar. The atmosphere is casual — clean hiking clothes are fine and expected. Families are welcome and common here at lunch.
Bright Angel Lodge also houses two cheaper dining options: the Harvey Burger (counter-service burgers and sandwiches) and the Bright Angel Fountain (outdoor ice cream and snacks). Both are walk-in, no reservation, and the most affordable food in the village. If you need a quick meal between viewpoints, the Fountain and Harvey Burger serve that purpose; the Steakhouse is for the sit-down dinner experience.
Hours, Reservations, and Seasonal Closures
Lunch
Walk-in, no reservation required. Typically opens around 11:00 AM. Good option mid-trip when you want a proper sit-down meal without planning ahead. Lighter menu than dinner.
No reservation required.
Dinner
Reservations strongly recommended May through September. The restaurant fills most evenings in peak season. Book through Xanterra's system online or call Bright Angel Lodge. Easier to get than El Tovar but still books out in summer.
Reservation recommended in season.
Winter Closure
Arizona Steakhouse closes seasonally in deep winter, typically January and February. Dates vary year to year. Always confirm hours before visiting in winter. The Maswik Food Court stays open year-round and is your best backup.
Confirm hours in January-February.
